Comparing the two honestly

• Get the total, not the licence. On systems quoted this way the figure that matters usually includes implementation, data migration, training, annual support and any per-module charge, and it is normal for those to be quoted separately.
• Ask what happens in year two. A first-year figure that includes implementation is not the number you will pay again, in either direction.
• Price the data you already own. Years of estimating rates and supplier pricing in a heritage system have real value, and what migrates cleanly versus what has to be rebuilt is a cost line in any move, in or out.

• Your price book is enormous and hard-won. Years of rates, assemblies and supplier pricing are a genuine asset. Moving them is doable and it is not free, and if the book is the business, the burden of proof on any replacement should be high.
• Your team is fluent and your office is stable. Fluency in a system is worth real money. A team that can drive an old system fast will be slower in a new one for months, and that cost is usually underestimated by everyone except the people doing the work.

Run one real job in parallel, with your own rates and your own suppliers, and keep the old system running until the new one has survived a claim, a variation and a month end.
