VIABUILD vs Deep Space
Deep Space is a construction management platform built for mid-tier commercial builders in Australia and New Zealand, with KAI working across drawings, consultant reports and RFIs. VIABUILD is the Construction Operating System for Australian residential builders. They are aimed at different builders, and this page says plainly which one fits which.
Verdict
VIABUILD fits if you build homes in Australia and want one connected system for the residential job, where the estimate becomes the job budget, purchase orders are raised from its lines, and approved bills and progress claims go to Xero, on a monthly price with no lock-in. Deep Space fits if you are a mid-tier commercial builder in Australia or New Zealand running somewhere between five and fifty active projects, with subcontract packages, consultant drawings, RFIs and retention to manage, and you want every module and unlimited users on one flat annual price.
Published pricing. VIABUILD: $555 a month for the whole platform including three users, additional users $65 a month, AUD inclusive of GST, month-to-month with no lock-in; seven days free, then a first month at $299. Deep Space: AUD $27,445 a year, or $2,495 a month; Australian pricing excludes GST, which is added at invoice. Unlimited users and projects, every module included, a twelve-month initial term that auto-renews, and implementation quoted separately.
Connects to Xero? VIABUILD: Yes. Native two-way sync: approved bills and progress claims push to Xero with tracking categories applied. Deep Space: Yes. A direct Xero integration: head contract claims, subcontractor claims, supplier invoices, purchase orders and contacts go to Xero, and payments and paid status come back, on a nightly run or on demand.

01 / Fair positioning
Two Australian platforms, built for different builders
Deep Space describes itself, on its own platform page, as a construction management platform for ANZ mid-tier commercial builders. It names the builder precisely: between five and fifty active projects, contracts from a few hundred thousand dollars to a hundred million, quantity surveyors, project managers running several jobs at once. It runs ten modules (preconstruction, programme, procurement, commercial, delivery, documentation, HSEQ, correspondence, portals and reporting), a field app called DS Site, and an intelligence layer called KAI, all on one flat price.
That is a commercial builder’s week. Consultant drawing packages to coordinate, subcontract packages to tender and level, RFIs and site instructions, notices of delay, extensions of time, sliding retention on the head contract. KAI is pointed at exactly that paperwork: Deep Space states it reviews drawing packages for scope gaps and coordination issues, reads consultant reports for commercial and programme risk, compares drawing revisions, matches invoices from the accounts inbox to purchase orders, and generates RFI responses from project context.
A residential builder’s week runs on different paperwork. Fewer consultants, almost no RFIs, and the pressure sits on the estimate, the client’s selections, the variations the homeowner asks for, the progress claim at each stage and the supplier invoices that land every day. VIABUILD is built for that job. In VIABUILD the estimate becomes the job budget, and purchase orders are raised from its lines. Upload a supplier invoice and Oryn reads it and fills in the lines for you to check against the purchase order and approve. VIABUILD connects to Xero, which stays your accounting system, and site safety runs in the ViaSite field app.
Neither of these products is a cut-down version of the other. Our own guide to AI construction software in Australia already says Deep Space, not VIABUILD, is the one to shortlist for mid-tier commercial work, and this page holds to that. The honest test is which paperwork fills your office, not which feature list is longer.

The differences that matter
Workflow, pricing philosophy, AI AP, estimating, scheduling, Xero, AI agent connectivity and Australian fit, compared dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | VIABUILD | Deep Space |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Australian residential builders. | ANZ mid-tier commercial builders, in the vendor’s words: five to fifty active projects, from $100k to $100M and above. |
| Category | A Construction Operating System: one connected system where a number entered once flows everywhere. | An all-in-one commercial construction management platform: ten modules plus the DS Site field app. |
| Embedded intelligence | Oryn. Upload a supplier invoice and Oryn reads it and fills in the lines for you to check against the purchase order and approve. | KAI. Reviews drawing packages for scope gaps, reads consultant reports for commercial and programme risk, compares revisions, matches inbox invoices to POs, generates RFI responses. Included in the price. |
| Estimating and preconstruction | Digital takeoff and estimating. The estimate becomes the job budget, and purchase orders are raised from its lines. | Light CRM, tender packages, BOQ takeoff, bid levelling, a proposal builder, and the winning estimate pushed to the budget register. |
| Subcontract procurement | Purchase orders raised from the estimate lines. | Subcontractor tendering with drawings and scope attached, bid comparison and levelling, a subcontractor portal and a compliance pre-check before award. |
| Drawings, RFIs and correspondence | Not built around consultant document control. If drawing registers, transmittals and RFIs run your week, weigh this row heavily. | Drawing register with revision history, transmittals from your own email, RFIs, site instructions, notice of delay and extension of time workflows, Outlook correspondence. |
| Claims and retention | Progress claims for residential contracts. Retention is not tracked today. | Progress claims and payment schedules, and sliding retention with milestone caps, as the vendor describes them. |

| Site and safety | Inductions, SWMS, toolbox talks, incident reports and QR site sign-in in ViaSite, included. | DS Site on iOS and Android: QR sign-on with SWMS acknowledgement, inductions, incidents and observations, included. |
| Accounting / Xero | Native two-way Xero sync; approved bills and progress claims push with tracking categories. | Direct Xero integration, eight sync types with four bidirectional; each project is a tracking category; nightly or manual. |
| Users | Three included, then $65 a month each. | Unlimited users and unlimited projects. The better model for a large team. |
| Pricing philosophy | Flat platform price in AUD, everything included; month-to-month with no lock-in available. | One flat price, every module included: AUD $27,445 a year or $2,495 a month, plus GST; implementation quoted separately. |
| Getting started | Self-serve: seven days free, then a first month at $299. | A scoped implementation package with two to three days on site, invoiced in advance; a paid pilot is available. |

04 / The decision
When Deep Space is the better call
Choose Deep Space if most of these are true of your business. It is the better product for that builder, and we would rather say so than win a sale that does not fit.
- Your work is commercial: head contracts with a principal, consultants issuing drawing packages, and subcontract packages you tender and level.
- You run somewhere between five and fifty active projects, the range Deep Space names on its own platform page.
- RFIs, site instructions, transmittals, notices of delay and extensions of time are a daily workload, not an occasional one.
- You hold and release retention on subcontracts and have it held on your head contract.
- Your programme lives in MS Project and you want cost and programme in the same record.
- Enough people need logins (project managers, QSs, contract administrators, site supervisors, accounts) that unlimited users on one flat price beats paying per seat.
Choose VIABUILD if you build homes: the estimate, client selections, homeowner variations, stage claims and a steady stream of supplier invoices are where your hours go, and a drawing register or a subcontract tender board would be overhead you pay for and do not use.
If you do both, count where the office time actually goes for a month. A residential builder who picks up the odd small commercial fitout on a simple contract is still running a residential business. A builder whose commercial work carries consultants, RFIs and retention is not, and should be looking at Deep Space.
05 / Pricing
What each one costs, and what to compare
Only figures each vendor publishes on its own current pages, reproduced with the vendor’s own tax wording.
The two prices have different shapes. Deep Space charges one flat price for the whole business, with unlimited users and projects and every module included. VIABUILD charges a monthly platform price with three users included and a monthly charge for each additional user.
Deep Space
- Annual: AUD $27,445 a year (NZD $33,000 for New Zealand customers).
- Monthly: $2,495 a month, which the vendor states is $29,940 a year paid month to month.
- Australian pricing excludes GST; the vendor states GST is added at invoice.
- Unlimited users, unlimited projects, every module, the DS Site field app and KAI included.
- A twelve-month initial term that renews automatically for a further twelve months unless cancelled before the term ends.
- Implementation is scoped and quoted separately and invoiced in advance; a paid pilot is offered.
VIABUILD
- Business plan at $555 a month, the whole platform, with three users included and additional users at $65 a month each.
- Annual at $5,994, a 10% saving against monthly, on a twelve-month non-refundable commitment.
- Self-serve entry is seven days free, then a first month at $299.
- All figures in Australian dollars and inclusive of GST. The monthly plan has no lock-in.
Full detail, including what is in the platform at that price, is on the pricing page.
Comparing the two honestly
- Put both on the same tax footing first. Deep Space’s figures exclude GST and VIABUILD’s include it. Deep Space’s annual price with GST added is about $30,190, or roughly $2,516 a month.
- Then count users. On list prices, VIABUILD’s monthly fee stays below that figure up to about 33 users and passes it at 34. A residential builder with a small office is nowhere near that line. A commercial builder with project managers, QSs, contract administrators and site supervisors on every job may well be past it, and unlimited users is then the better model.
- Add the implementation package to Deep Space’s first year. It is quoted per business, so ask for the figure before comparing.
- Ask Deep Space how the monthly plan sits against the twelve-month initial term. Its pricing page shows both and does not say whether the monthly plan can be cancelled inside the first twelve months.
- Price the modules you would use, not the ones included. Deep Space’s price buys drawing control, subcontract tendering, RFIs and consultant portals. For a commercial builder that is the point. For a home builder it is weight.

06 / FAQ
Common questions.
Only for residential builders. Deep Space is built for mid-tier commercial builders in Australia and New Zealand, and for that builder it is the stronger fit: drawing control, subcontract tendering, RFIs, notices of delay and retention are its core. VIABUILD is built for Australian residential builders. If your work is commercial, shortlist Deep Space rather than us.
For a small residential office, VIABUILD, by a wide margin: $555 a month including GST with three users, against Deep Space’s AUD $27,445 a year plus GST and an implementation package quoted separately. The gap closes as headcount grows, because Deep Space includes unlimited users and VIABUILD charges $65 a month for each user after three. On list prices the two meet at around 33 to 34 users.
Yes. VIABUILD has a native two-way Xero sync where approved bills and progress claims push to Xero with tracking categories. Deep Space documents a direct integration with eight sync types: head contract claims, subcontractor claims, supplier invoices, purchase orders and contacts go across, and payments and paid status come back, with each project carried as a Xero tracking category. Test either one against your own chart of accounts before you commit.
They are pointed at different paperwork. Deep Space states KAI reviews drawing packages for scope gaps and coordination issues, reads consultant reports for risk, compares drawing revisions, matches invoices to purchase orders and generates RFI responses, which is a commercial builder’s document load. In VIABUILD, you upload a supplier invoice and Oryn reads it and fills in the lines for you to check against the purchase order and approve, which is where much of a residential builder’s office time goes.
Deep Space’s platform and pricing pages describe it as built for commercial builders and do not mention residential work. A residential builder could run it, but would be paying for consultant portals, drawing control and subcontract tendering they rarely use. Ask Deep Space directly if your work is mixed.
